All nonprofit communicators need to set boundaries with their coworkers. Boundaries exist to protect you, not to appease or please other people.

The problem? Most of us are bad at setting boundaries and even worse at enforcing them when they are crossed, because we want to be people-pleasing team players who can make amazing things happen!

During this Jump Starter workshop, we’ll help you pick one or two boundaries that you’d like to set, figure out how to discuss the new boundary with those who’ll be affected, and troubleshoot what you’ll do when people inevitably try to cross it.

During this Jump Starter, you’ll receive:

  • Brief training on what boundaries are and why they are so powerful.  For example, boundaries are made up of Yes and No. Boundaries are not emotions. While you and others will have emotional reactions to boundaries, they are not one and the same.

  • Help identifying which boundaries you should consider in your nonprofit comms work.  We’ll brainstorm together a suggested list for your consideration, including boundaries regarding assignments, content, deadlines, and off-hours.

  • Boundary setting worksheets. You’ll get our step-by-step worksheet to help you set and implement your new boundaries.

  • Time to work on your boundary setting plan. You’ll have time during the Jump Starter to begin working on your new boundaries, to create your plan to share them, and to think about how you’ll react when the boundary is crossed.

Meet Kivi Leroux Miller

Kivi Leroux Miller is the founder and CEO of Nonprofit Marketing Guide, where she helps nonprofit communications professionals learn their jobs, love their work, and lead their teams through a variety of training and coaching programs. She has personally mentored hundreds of nonprofit communications directors and communications teams as a certified executive coach.

She is a popular and trusted keynote, workshop, and webinar presenter. Kivi is also the award-winning author of three books on nonprofit marketing and communications that are often used in college and certificate programs.

After attending college in the San Francisco Bay Area and a few years working in Washington, DC, Kivi moved to rural North Carolina where she has lived for the last twenty years with her husband, two teenage daughters, and seven rescue cats, including a tripawd. She enjoys year-round gardening, baking, vegetarian cooking, hiking, and kayaking.
